Call for Speakers: AHIMA27
September 12 – 14, 2027
Phoenix, Arizona

When is the submission deadline:
January 11, 2027

The AHIMA Conference Program Committee will begin reviewing applications in January 2027.

What what makes a strong proposal?

We welcome proposals from both experienced presenters and first-time speakers. You do not need to be a professional speaker to have valuable knowledge to share.

AHIMA27 educational sessions should prioritize learning and professional development rather than product promotion or sales presentations.
Whether you are an experienced presenter or new to speaking at conferences, AHIMA27 offers an excellent opportunity to share your knowledge and insights with peers across the health information profession.

What is the evaluation criteria for submitted proposals?

We encourage submissions that go beyond high-level overviews to deliver meaningful, actionable education.

All proposals will undergo a peer review and will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Address relevant challenges: Focus on current issues, emerging trends, or evolving practices affecting health information professionals.
  • Provide practical takeaways: Offer strategies, tools, approaches, or insights attendees can apply in their own organizations.
  • Share real-world experiences: Highlight case studies, successful initiatives, implementation challenges, lessons learned, or measurable results.
  • Offer fresh perspectives: Present innovative ideas, new approaches, or thoughtful analysis of important industry developments.
  • Engage the audience: Incorporate examples, scenarios, discussion, or other opportunities for attendee participation.

What are the content focus areas for AHIMA27?

We are seeking proposals on a wide range of health information topics. Whether you are breaking down complex coding and documentation guidance into clear, actionable steps or sharing lessons learned and success stories from your organization, we want to hear from you.

AHIMA27 will feature six educational tracks. Please select the track that best aligns with your expertise and the focus of your session.

Keep in mind that AHIMA attendees represent a wide range of experience levels and professional backgrounds. Don’t hesitate to submit proposals geared toward either beginner or advanced audiences.

When crafting your proposal, be mindful of the session timing. Educational sessions are 60 minutes in total. We recommend reserving the last five minutes for Q&A, leaving a minimum of 55 minutes for your presentation. Please ensure you are prepared to fill the entire time allotted for your session.

AHIMA27 Content Areas:

  • Policy & Government: Healthcare legislation, regulations, public policy, advocacy, and government initiatives affecting health information.
  • Privacy & Security: Data protection, cybersecurity, privacy regulations, information governance, and emerging security risks.
  • Coding: Coding accuracy, compliance, auditing, reimbursement, automation, artificial intelligence, and evolving coding practices.
  • Career Advancement: Professional development, leadership, workforce transformation, emerging roles, education, and career growth.
  • Documentation & Data Integrity: Clinical documentation integrity, data quality, interoperability, information accuracy, and the responsible use of health data.
  • Operational Outcomes: Operational efficiency, revenue cycle performance, technology implementation, process improvement, and measurable organizational results.

All proposals must be submitted by the deadline to be considered for AHIMA27. The AHIMA Conference Committee will review submissions based on topic relevance, educational value, audience applicability, and alignment with conference programming needs.

All applicants will be notified of their submission status following the review and selection process.

Please ensure all fields are completed. To prevent losing your work, we recommend drafting your submission in a separate document and then pasting it into the form, as leaving the form open for an extended period may cause it to time out.

Speakers are welcome to submit multiple session proposals; however, a separate form must be completed for each submission.

What if my session is accepted?

All accepted speakers will be notified by mid-May 2027. AHIMA will waive admission fees for the main speaker and one co-speaker per session. Please note that speakers and co-speakers are responsible for covering their own travel, accommodations, and meals.

When will I know if my abstract has been accepted?

Accept/decline notices are expected to go out in mid-May 2027.
